Project Overview

This role supports one of New Zealand’s most significant and technically complex vertical infrastructure developments. The project is a large-scale, secure operational facility being delivered through a Public Private Partnership (PPP) and joint venture model, bringing together some of the country’s most experienced construction, engineering and service delivery organisations. Designed to operate around the clock once complete, the facility incorporates high-security environments, complex building systems, and long-term asset management requirements. The project environment is fast-paced, highly collaborative and governance-led, with strong interface management across public and private sector stakeholders.

About the Opportunity

This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in ensuring quality assurance and quality control outcomes across a nationally significant infrastructure project. As Quality Coordinator, you will support the implementation and coordination of project quality systems, inspection programs, surveillance activities and compliance requirements. Working closely with engineering, construction, procurement and quality teams, you will help ensure that construction and supplier activities meet contractual, regulatory and project quality standards while contributing to successful project delivery.

About the Role

Based in Christchurch, the Quality Coordinator is responsible for coordinating quality inspection, testing, surveillance and verification activities across the project. Working closely with the Project Quality Manager, engineers, supervisors, suppliers, subcontractors and third-party inspectors, you will ensure quality requirements are effectively implemented, monitored and documented throughout procurement, manufacture and construction phases. The role plays a critical part in maintaining compliance with project specifications, quality standards and contractual obligations while supporting project completion and handover activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and coordinate construction and source inspection plans, surveillance activities and inspection schedules
  • Monitor and report on quality inspection progress across procurement, manufacturing and construction activities
  • Coordinate inspection and testing activities with inspectors, engineers, subcontractors and third-party service providers
  • Support the implementation of Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), verification plans, inspection checklists and quality documentation
  • Ensure inspection, testing and surveillance activities are conducted in accordance with project requirements, standards and regulatory obligations
  • Coordinate witness points, hold points and critical inspections to ensure required stakeholder attendance
  • Liaise with procurement teams, engineers, supervisors and project leadership regarding quality performance and inspection outcomes
  • Review inspection findings and track quality actions arising from inspections, testing and surveillance activities
  • Participate in project kick-off, pre-production and pre-inspection meetings to communicate quality expectations and requirements
  • Review supplier and subcontractor quality documentation to ensure compliance with contractual and project requirements
  • Support the review of RFQ documentation and supplier deliverables to ensure quality requirements are adequately addressed
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of project ITPs, verification plans and quality records
  • Coordinate source inspections and verification activities to ensure procured materials and equipment meet project specifications
  • Support quality completion processes, including walkdowns, punch lists, defect management and closeout activities
  • Maintain traceability records and ensure quality documentation is compiled for turnover, completion dossiers and handover packages
  • Support the identification, investigation and resolution of non-conformances and quality issues
  • Coordinate corrective and preventive actions to address quality concerns and prevent recurrence
  • Monitor the closure of NCRs, CARs, TQs and quality action items
  • Prepare quality reports, inspection records and status updates for project stakeholders
  • Promote a culture of quality, continuous improvement and compliance across the project
About You
  • Proven experience in quality coordination, quality assurance or quality control within major infrastructure, construction, engineering or manufacturing environments
  • Strong understanding of quality management systems, inspection processes and quality documentation requirements
  • Experience coordinating inspections, testing and surveillance activities across multiple project stakeholders
  • Ability to interpret project specifications, codes, standards and contractual quality requirements
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage quality records, documentation and reporting requirements
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with engineers, construction teams, suppliers and subcontractors
  • Proactive and solutions-focused approach with a commitment to achieving quality outcomes and project success
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
  • Suitable trade qualification, engineering qualification or related technical discipline preferred
