Job summary

Nomad Adventures Ltd. in Queenstown seeks a Driver / Tour Guide for 4WD, quad bike and walking tours. You will deliver engaging tours, share local history, and maintain safety standards across routes.

Requirements include NZ Class 1 licence with passenger endorsement, strong English, and the ability to work weekends and holidays. Training provided; uniforms and equipment supplied for a dynamic seasonal role.

Qualifications

• Must have Full NZ Class 1 Driver Licence (manual).
• Passenger Endorsement mandatory for consideration.
• Class 2 Licence is a big advantage for bus operations.
• Proven ability to safely operate large 4WD off-road vehicles.
• ATV experience is advantageous.
• Knowledge of the Queenstown area or ability to learn routes.
• Excellent communication and customer-service skills.
• Good physical fitness; able to work outdoors in varying conditions.
• Fluency in English; other languages advantageous.
• Current Workplace First Aid Certificate.

Responsibilities

• Drive and guide 4WD, Quad Bike and Walking Tours on approved routes.
• Complete pre-trip and post-trip checks; assist with minor maintenance.
• Ensure tours meet safety standards and company procedures.
• Provide engaging commentary about Queenstown’s geography and history.
• Maintain tour records and logbooks as required.

We have both full time and casual positions available for the summer season.

About You:

You’re passionate and enthusiastic about both New Zealand and Lord of the Rings in equal measure! You love sharing these incredible landscapes with others, as well as bringing some Middle Earth magic into everything you do.

You have:

Full NZ Class 1 Driver Licence (manual transmission experience required).

Passenger Endorsement is essential. We will not be able to consider your application without this.

Full NZ Class 2 Driving Licence is a big advantage as we have a fleet of buses and offer transport services.

Proven ability to safely operate large 4WD vehicles on off‑road terrain.

Experience with ATVs an advantage.

Sound knowledge of local area or ability to learn tour routes and commentary content.

Excellent communication and customer‑service skills, and confident speaking to groups.

A good level of physical fitness and able to work outdoors in varying conditions.

Fluency in English is required, with other languages advantageous.

A current Workplace First Aid Certificate

Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and public holidays.

About the Role:

As a Driver / Tour Guide, you’ll operate company vehicles safely, lead visitors on unforgettable tours, share stories of local history and culture, and sprinkle in some Lord of the Rings magic too!

Key Tasks & Responsibilities include:

Drive and guide 4WD, Quad Bike, and Walking Tours through approved routes.

Complete pre-trip and post-trip vehicle checks, cleaning and refuelling as required. An ability to carry out minor vehicle maintenance would be advantageous.

Ensure all tours operate safely and adhere to company procedures and NZTA standards.

Provide engaging commentary about Queenstown, its geography and history.

Maintaining tour reporting and record‑keeping (e.g., logbooks, visitor registers, trip check sheets).

Roster: Rotating daily roster (with hours between 7:30am – 9pm) including weekends and public holidays
Pay range: NZ $25 – $35 per hour (depending on experience and qualifications)
