Job summary

The Black Box Theatre at Papa Hou in central Christchurch is seeking a Theatre & Events Coordinator to manage venue enquiries, bookings and event delivery from first contact through to closing night.

You will work closely with hirers, performers, producers and our hospitality team to ensure exceptional events, interpret riders, coordinate productions, conferences and events, and deliver outstanding client experiences at a busy, purpose-built venue.

Qualifications

  • Experience in event, venue or production coordination.
  • Understanding of theatre and live event operations.
  • Ability to interpret technical requirements and riders.
  • Strong organisation and communication skills.
  • Confidence managing multiple priorities.
  • A calm and practical approach under pressure.

Job description

The Black Box Theatre at Papa Hou is one of Christchurch's most versatile performance and event venues. Located opposite the Botanic Gardens, the venue features a sprung hardwood floor, retractable seating for up to 240 patrons, in-house lighting and sound, large-format projection, circus rigging capability and a fully licensed lobby. Hosting everything from theatre, dance and music performances to conferences, workshops and corporate events, the Black Box offers a unique and adaptable space in the heart of the city. Every booking helps support the charitable work of The Kind Foundation

The Black Box Theatre at Papa Hou is a busy, purpose-built performance and events venue in central Christchurch. Hosting everything from theatre and dance to conferences and corporate events, it's a venue where no two days are the same.

About the Role

As Theatre & Events Coordinator, you'll manage venue enquiries, bookings and event delivery from first contact through to closing night. You'll work closely with hirers, performers, producers and our hospitality team to deliver exceptional events and experiences.

The Technical Side Matters

This role is the bridge between what clients need and what the venue can deliver. You'll confidently discuss technical requirements, interpret riders and coordinate solutions to ensure events run smoothly.
