Job summary

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hamilton is seeking a Temple Groundskeeper to support basic landscaping and grounds maintenance, ensuring grounds reflect the sacredness of the temple experience.

The role is permanent full-time at the Hamilton Temple, reporting to the Temple Groundskeeper Supervisor, with responsibilities spanning mowing, edging, irrigation support, and working with volunteers while maintaining safety and cleanliness.

Qualifications

• Some experience in groundskeeping, horticulture, landscaping, or a related field
• Basic knowledge of landscaping equipment, hand tools, and small machinery
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and adapt to seasonal requirements
• Physical capability to perform manual outdoor work, including lifting up to 23kg (50 lbs)
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, push, and pull for extended periods of time
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow verbal and written instructions
• A commitment to safe work practices and willingness to complete required training and certifications
• Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
• Proof of legal right to work in New Zealand
• A police background check may be required
• Preferred: Experience or qualifications in horticulture, agronomy, arboriculture, landscaping, landscape design, or landscape technology would be advantageous
• Knowledge of plants, fertilizers, and landscape maintenance practices is desirable

Responsibilities

• Perform groundskeeping tasks such as mowing, edging, trimming, mulching, and assisting with planting flowers, shrubs, and other landscape features in accordance with the landscape design plans
• Safely operate hand tools and power equipment used in grounds maintenance
• Assist with irrigation system operation and maintenance to support healthy landscapes
• Maintain clean and safe outdoor areas by removing debris, leaves, and rubbish
• Support volunteers involved in groundskeeping activities
• Assist with seasonal and weather-related tasks, including hazard management where applicable
• Following all workplace health and safety procedures and maintaining established temple grounds standards
