Hamilton City Council is seeking an experienced Leading Hand to join the Grounds Maintenance Team at Hamilton Gardens. You’ll help lead a small crew, coordinate daily work programmes, and ensure high standards for our world-renowned gardens that attract visitors locally and internationally.

Reporting to the Horticulture and Operations Manager, you’ll be hands-on, oversee lawn and turf maintenance, machinery, and safety, and mentor team members while delivering exceptional visitor experiences.

Competenze

• Three years' relevant industry experience.
• Experience supervising or leading staff.
• Level 3 Turf qualification.
• Growsafe qualification.
• NZ Class 1 Driver Licence.
• Confidence operating mechanical tools and equipment used in grounds maintenance.
• Ability to train others and share practical knowledge.
• Good communication with different teams across Council.
• Proactive and self-motivated with flexibility for changing priorities.

Mansioni

• Coordinate the team’s daily work and ensure maintenance programmes are completed on time and to standard.
• Maintain the Gardens, grounds and associated areas.
• Oversee lawn and turf maintenance, including annual turf renovations.
• Monitor machinery and coordinate servicing, repairs and replacements.
• Ensure water features and irrigation systems are functioning.
• Assist with roster development for rubbish collection and weekend customer service.
• Supervise contractors and contribute to special projects.
• Coach and train team members to build capability.
