Job summary

Qube Ports NZ is seeking an experienced Technical Trainer to own and drive the training space across Napier and Gisborne port operations. You will coordinate with site managers and H&S to deliver training, competency assessments, and compliance to keep our workforce skilled and operationally ready.

You will build relationships across the business, identify training needs, and manage records in the Learning Management System while ensuring procedures and safety standards are upheld.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering workplace training within port/operational environments.
• Ability to take ownership of training activities across multiple sites.
• At least one year’s experience delivering training and competency assessments.
• Sound technical knowledge within port operations or related industry.
• Strong communication, coaching and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and coordinate training plans across assigned sites.
• Deliver operational training, refresher training and competency assessments.
• Conduct Verification of Competency (VOC) assessments.
• Work with operational leaders to identify training and compliance requirements.
• Maintain training records and Learning Management System data.
• Support rollout of new training programmes and initiatives.
• Coordinate traineeships and external training providers.
• Assist with training reporting, planning and administration.
• Ensure training activities align with company procedures and compliance requirements.

About The Role

We're looking for an experienced Technical Trainer to join our team, reporting to the National Training Supervisor.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is ready to take ownership of the training space across our Napier and Gisborne port operations. We're seeking a motivated and capable trainer who can build strong relationships across the business, identify training needs, and drive training outcomes within a busy operational environment.

Working closely with site managers, supervisors, Health & Safety personnel, and employees, you'll coordinate and deliver training activities, competency assessments, refresher training, and compliance requirements to ensure our workforce remains skilled, safe, and operationally ready.

Location: Napier or Gisborne

Status: Full-time Permanent

Specific Responsibilities

• Develop and coordinate training plans across assigned sites

Who we’re after

• Experience delivering workplace training within a port, stevedoring, marshalling, logistics, forestry, or similar operational environment
• A self-starter who is comfortable taking ownership of training activities across multiple sites
• At least one year experience delivering training and conducting competency assessments
• Sound technical knowledge within port operations or a related industry
• Strong communication, coaching, and presentation skills
• Good understanding of adult learning principles
• Experience with training administration and Learning Management Systems
• Intermediate Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel skills
• Ability to build positive relationships across all levels of the business
• NZ Certificate in Adult and Tertiary Teaching Level 4 or equivalent would be advantageous
