At Mott MacDonald, we're delivering some of New Zealand's most significant water infrastructure projects. As communities grow and climate challenges evolve, the need for resilient, sustainable and future-ready water networks has never been greater.

We're seeking a Technical Director - Network Planning to provide technical leadership across our water business, helping clients plan, prioritise and invest in the stormwater and wastewater networks that will support New Zealand's future.

This is an opportunity to play a leading role in shaping major infrastructure programmes, influencing investment decisions, and delivering better outcomes for communities across Aotearoa.

The Opportunity

As a Technical Director, you'll be recognised as a trusted advisor to clients and a technical leader within our Water business. You'll lead the planning and strategy for complex stormwater and wastewater networks, helping clients respond to growth, ageing infrastructure, environmental challenges and increasing service expectations.

Working closely with planners, modellers, asset managers and design teams, you'll develop network strategies, master plans and infrastructure investment programmes that support long-term community outcomes.

You'll also contribute to business development, project direction and thought leadership across the water sector.

What You'll Do
  • Lead the development of stormwater and wastewater network strategies, master plans and long-term investment programmes.
  • Provide technical leadership for network planning, hydraulic assessments and infrastructure planning projects.
  • Advise clients on growth servicing, network performance, resilience and climate adaptation.
  • Guide the assessment of network capacity, system constraints and future servicing requirements.
  • Support the development of asset management plans, capital works programmes and business cases.
  • Oversee the application of hydraulic modelling to support strategic planning and investment decisions.
  • Provide technical direction on servicing strategies for growth areas, urban development and infrastructure upgrades.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to local authorities, water utilities and infrastructure owners.
  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams and contribute to winning and delivering major projects across New Zealand.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships across the water sector.
About You

You'll be a recognised water industry professional with significant experience in network planning, infrastructure strategy or hydraulic modelling.

You'll bring:

  • A degree in Civil, Environmental or Water Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Extensive experience in stormwater and/or wastewater network planning.
  • Strong understanding of network performance, capacity assessment and infrastructure investment planning.
  • Experience applying hydraulic modelling to inform network planning and decision-making.
  • Knowledge of growth servicing, resilience planning and asset management principles.
  • Experience developing business cases, investment strategies and long-term capital programmes.
  • Strong client engagement and stakeholder management skills.
  • A track record of leading complex projects and influencing strategic outcomes.
  • Chartered Professional Engineer (or equivalent professional accreditation).
