Job summary

Northpower in New Zealand is seeking an ICT Support Technician to deliver high-quality repair and maintenance services for IT devices including laptops, phones, notepads, tablets, and PCs. You will diagnose problems, install, configure and troubleshoot to resolve technical issues, with a minimum 30 hours per week roaster, rising to 45 hours as needed.

Two positions available at $29–$35 per hour, commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

  • 1 year or more of relevant work experience in IT or electronics or any technical work
  • Relevant Level 5 qualification (IT/electronics/Technician) can be considered in-lieu of work experience above
  • Knowledge repairing and maintaining mobile devices
  • Understanding of repairing laptops, mobile phones, computers, notepads and other electronic goods
  • Good understanding of computers and communication devices
  • Willingness to work roaster shifts including weekends and public holidays
  • Overtime availability
  • Ability to interact with a wide range of people
  • Solid judgment and a hands-on learning approach

Responsibilities

  • Quality inspection and auditing
  • Install and configure computer hardware operating systems and applications
  • Monitor and maintain computer systems and networks (residential and business)
  • Assemble and disassemble computers, laptops and other devices
  • Assist clients to resolve issues by face-to-face discussions or over the phone
  • Troubleshoot system and network problems and diagnose hardware/software faults
  • Replace parts as required
  • Provide IT advice to commercial and business customers
  • Provide support including procedural documentation and reports to senior staff
  • Support deployment of new applications and setting up new users’ accounts
  • Respond to call outs within agreed time frames
  • Work continuously on tasks until completion or refer to third parties if needed
  • Prioritize and manage multiple open cases
  • Build good relationships with customers and other professionals
  • Test and evaluate new technologies
  • Conduct electrical safety checks on equipment
  • Configure client equipment to connect to internet via modem/DSL/router
  • Diagnose and repair Apple, Android and Windows phones
  • Assist senior staff as required
  • Keep the shop tidy
  • Handle customer issues/complaints effectively
  • Maintain safe and clean store environment according to health and safety standards

Job description

Job Summary The ICT Support Technician is responsible for high-quality repair and maintenance service for a variety of IT devices including laptops, mobile phones, notepads, ICT peripherals, tablets, desktop computers and other electronic goods by diagnosing problems, installing, configuring and troubleshooting and resolution of technical problems.

Payrate $29 to $35 based on the work experience

Tasks and duties The employee’s tasks and duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Quality inspection and auditing
  • Installing and configuring computer hardware operating systems and applications,
  • Monitoring and maintaining computer systems and networks, both residential and business,
  • Assemble and disassemble computers, laptops and other devices,
  • Assist clients to resolve issues by face-to-face discussions or over the telephone,
  • Troubleshooting system and network problems and diagnosing and solving hardware/software faults,
  • Replacing parts as required,
  • Providing specific business IT advice to commercial and business customers,
  • Providing support, including procedural documentation and relevant reports to senior members of the company,
  • Supporting the roll-out of new applications/setting up new users’ accounts and profiles and dealing with password issues,
  • Responding within agreed time limit to call outs
  • Working continuously on task until completion (or referral to third parties, if appropriate)
  • Prioritizing and managing many open cases at one time,
  • Rapidly establishing a good working relationship with customers and other professionals,
  • Testing and evaluation new technologies
  • Conducting electrical safety checks on computer equipment
  • Configuration of client’s equipment to connect to the internet via modem/DSL/router (Dial up/DSL customers only)
  • Diagnose and Repair apple, Android and window phone
  • Assisting senior members of staff, as required.
  • Keep the shop nice and tidy
  • Deal with customers in a daily basis and resolve the issues/complaints if any
  • Protect employees and customers by providing safe and clean store environment. Ensure all health and safety standards are met.
  • To do such other duties as the Manager/Director may from time to time direct

Skills needed for staff

  • Main skills required with smart phones
  • Should know soldering
  • Software programming
  • PCB installation
  • Good knowledge of internal components of motherboard

Experience / Qualifications / Knowledge

  • Solid judgment skills
  • Hands-on approach and a willingness to learn
