Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children is seeking a Team Leader Operations to drive operational delivery for a residential residence and community homes. You will lead a Residential Youth Workers team, provide strong management, and ensure safety for residents and staff across shifting rosters.

The role emphasizes collaboration with Iwi, whānau, and partners, with a focus on Tiriti o Waitangi and Tikanga Māori, while guiding change initiatives and risk management in a regulated environment.

Mō te tūnga | About the role

The Team Leader Operations is an integral part of the Residential Leadership Team. You will lead a team of Residential Youth Workers that are passionate about positively changing the course or pathway a rangatahi is travelling on. You will provide unwavering, supportive team management and leadership whilst ensuring the safety and security of everyone in the residence is maintained at all times.

As part of this role, you will be required to complete the roster shift (Friday to Sunday, 1:00pm to 9:00pm) approximately once every three weeks. You will also be a point of contact for kaimahi to report absences from work and provide appropriate support and communication as required.

Responsibilities for the role include:

• Providing support and leadership to operational delivery and strategic vision for the residence and community homes

• Maintaining and nurturing relationships with local Iwi, community groups and key agencies
• Ensuring residential staff training and supervision requirements are met

Ngā ʷpōanawańō ńō | What you will bring

You will be committed to leading by example at all times, enjoy working collaboratively and motivated by building strong, open relationships.

In addition to this you will have the following skills and experiences:

• The ability to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders and work as one team including iwi and whānau, team, staff, leadership and management
• Proven ability to quickly build rapport with tamariki and whānau
• Ability to navigate ambiguous and complex situations
• Ability to lead and implement change initiatives
• Risk management experience, within a complex regulatory environment
• Demonstrated commitment to and respect for the Tiriti o Waitangi and incorporate this into your work, with an understanding and application of Tikanga ŋori
• Relevant experience working with at-risk children or youth or a qualification in youth work, sport and recreation, education, health, or psychology is preferred
• A full, clean NZ driver's licence is essential
• Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural practices in particular; knowledge of tikanga ŋori, and Pacific peoples' culture

Annual remuneration for this position is between $106,416 and $117,782 dependent on experience, with tenure-based progression steps available above this range.
