Job summary

Jones land management in Queenstown is seeking an experienced Gardening Team Leader to guide a small crew on commercial and residential properties. The role combines hands-on work with office duties such as planning maintenance programs, budgeting, and client meetings.

You will lead up to two staff, ensure high standards, and drive business development. Essential items include irrigation expertise, horticultural background, strong communication, and a valid NZ driving license.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years horticultural experience, ideally with a qualification.
• Experience leading a team and mentoring staff.
• Strong communication, verbal and written.
• Experience with irrigation systems.
• Clean, full manual driving license and NZ working rights.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily maintenance on commercial and residential properties.
• Plan maintenance program and weekly/monthly schedules.
• Meet clients and contribute to business development planning.
• Quality control and budget monitoring throughout projects.
• Manage tools and vehicles maintenance and safety.
• Supervise up to 2 staff and perform hands-on tasks as needed.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced gardening team leader based out of our Queenstown office. This is a hands on role, where you will be expected to jump in and work alongside your team on our commercial & residential properties when required, as well as your office duties. Your duties would include meeting new/existing clients, business development, planning our maintenance program over the course of the year, planning weekly/monthly schedules, quality control, tool/vehicle maintenance management, budget control and all associated garden maintenance tasks. You will be working alone some days and running a team of up to 2 staff members.

You will need to effectively manage your team to achieve the daily targets while maintaining the high standards our clients have come to expect.

The following is essential: -

• Experience of leading a team.
• Experience with irrigation systems.
• Great people management skills.
• Positive mentoring skills.
• Able to self motivate as well as keep the team motivated.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal & written.
• Using and performing routine maintenance on associated tools & equipment.
• Horticultural experience of at least 2 years, ideally with a qualification.
• Plant/weed identification for a range of species, both native and exotic.
• Clean, full manual driving license.
• The right to work in New Zealand.
