Job summary

Randstad New Zealand seeks a Team Leader – Financial Accounting to lead a team of six in delivering core financial accounting, external reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, taxation compliance and fixed asset management for a 12-month fixed-term contract.

You will coordinate annual reporting, work with external auditors and government stakeholders, and drive process improvements while ensuring high-quality financial controls and compliance under public sector standards.

Qualifications

• Tertiary degree in Accounting or Finance and CAANZ membership.
• Proven leadership of finance teams.
• Deep knowledge of public sector accounting standards and tax compliance.
• Experience with financial management information systems and complex reconciliations.
• Strong stakeholder engagement with internal managers and government auditors.

Responsibilities

• Lead a six-person financial accounting team.
• Oversee external reporting, GL reconciliations, fixed asset management, and monthly Treasury submissions.
• Coordinate annual reporting processes and external audits.
• Identify risks and implement robust financial controls.

About The Role

I am looking for a Team Leader – Financial Accounting to lead a team of six in delivering core financial accounting, external reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, taxation compliance, and fixed asset management for a 12 month fixed term contract.

Key Responsibilities

• Team Leadership: Manage, mentor, and build a high-performing financial accounting team.
• Financial Reporting & Reconciliations: Lead external financial reporting, general ledger reconciliations, fixed asset management, and monthly Treasury submissions via CFISnet.
• Audit & Annual Processes: Coordinate annual reporting processes, external audit requirements, and ministerial information requests.
• Process Improvement: Identify risks and implement efficient financial controls and processes.

Key Requirements

• Qualifications: Tertiary degree in Accounting/Finance and CAANZ (or equivalent) membership.
• Leadership Experience: Proven track record leading, motivating, and developing finance teams.
• Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of public sector accounting standards tax compliance, and the Public Finance Act.
• Systems & Data: Experience with financial management information systems and complex reconciliations.
• Stakeholder Management: Outstanding communication skills with experience engaging internal managers and external audit/government stakeholders.
