Job summary

Yoobee Colleges is seeking a Teaching Assistant for the Master in Business Informatics programme at the Christchurch campus. The role supports teaching delivery, learning support, and student engagement while assisting lecturers and students to maintain high academic standards.

The position is fixed-term and part-time (13 hours per week): Friday 3h, Saturday 5h, Sunday 5h. Experience with postgraduate students and LMS tools is desirable for success.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or higher in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Business Informatics, Health Informatics, Data Science, or a related discipline (essential)
• Prior teaching assistance, tutoring, mentoring, or relevant professional experience (preferred)
• Familiarity with LMS platforms (e.g., Blackboard, Moodle, Turnitin) and academic tools
• Experience supporting postgraduate students or research activities is advantageous
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Patience, empathy, and the ability to engage with a diverse postgraduate cohort
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Understanding of academic integrity and research ethics
• Commitment to continuous learning and academic excellence
• Respectful of cultural diversity and Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles

Responsibilities

• Assist lecturers in classroom preparation, tutorial facilitation, and lab sessions.
• Provide student support during and outside of class hours (as scheduled).
• Guide students on the use of tools, platforms, and technologies related to coursework in software engineering and Business Informatics.
• Assist with grading, moderation preparation, and administrative follow-up under faculty supervision.
• Help organize student presentations, project milestones, and other assessment-related events.
• Support in setting up online platforms, communication channels, and class resources.
• Attend classes on weekends or evenings as required to provide in-session technical and academic support.
• Help identify students who may require additional support and refer them to appropriate channels.

Teaching Assistant - Master in Business Informatics

Location: Christchurch

Part-time | Fixed-term | Yoobee Colombo Street Campus

Please note: This is a fixed-term, part-time role working 13 hours per week: 3 hours on Friday, 5 hours on Saturday and 5 hours on Sunday.

About the role:

The Teaching Assistant will assist in the delivery of high-quality teaching, learning support, and student engagement for the Master in Business Informatics Programme. The Teaching Assistant will support lecturers and students to foster a positive and effective academic environment, contribute to the administrative and practical aspects of teaching, and uphold academic standards aligned with Yoobee’s values and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
