Te Kura Tuarua o Taraika ki Pukeahu (WHS) invites applications for a suitably qualified Teacher Aide to join the He Kākano team for Term 1, 2027. The position is 28 hours per week, term time only, exclusive of annual leave, with start date subject to police vetting clearance.

The successful candidate will support ORS funded students in mainstream classes and work with students with complex intellectual and behavioural needs.

Job description

We are a coeducational non-uniform school located on Pukeahu. We have a growing relationship with Te Atiawa which supports our kura’s access to the wider community of Te Whanganui-a‑Tara, and its potential local curriculum.

We are looking for a suitably qualified and experienced Teacher Aide to join our He Kākano team for Term 1, 2027. The position is for 28 hours per week, term time only exclusive of annual leave. The successful candidate will be supporting ORS funded students in mainstream classes. Start date to be determined dependent on the successful return of a police vetting check.

An important part of the role will be working with students with complex intellectual and behavioural needs to work in He Kākano and in the mainstream across a range of subjects. In addition to providing support for students in their classes, the applicant may provide supervision at breaktimes plus one-to-one care for individual students who need assistance with feeding and toileting.

This position will suit someone with experience of working with students who have intellectual and behavioural needs. Patience, resilience, adaptability and a willingness to learn are important qualities. Experience of working with students with autistic spectrum conditions is desirable.

This is a permanent, part-time position that may be offered as fixed-term, part-time position dependent on the successful applicant's residency status.
