Job summary

The Eastern Institute of Technology is seeking a Systems Administrator (0.55 FTE) in Hawke's Bay to support, maintain and develop IT systems and computing labs for teaching and learning in the School of Computing. The role works with lecturers, students and the Digital Team to ensure reliable, secure, and high‑performing environments.

You will manage Windows and Linux systems, AD, Hyper‑V, server technologies, databases and networking, while designing solutions and supporting cloud technologies.

Qualifications

• Experience with Windows operating systems, including Active Directory and Hyper‑V.
• Experience with Microsoft Server technologies, SQL and SharePoint.
• Knowledge of TCP/IP networking and network infrastructure.
• Database design, analysis and management skills, including MySQL and MSSQL.
• Strong analytical and methodical problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to a range of users.
• The ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines and adapt quickly to new technologies.
• A collaborative approach with the ability to build strong relationships with staff, students and technical teams.

Job description

The Systems Administrator is a permanent part‑time position (0.55 FTE, 20 hours per week) based in Hawke's Bay, responsible for supporting, maintaining and developing the information technology systems and computing laboratory environments that enable the effective delivery of teaching and learning within the School of Computing. Working closely with lecturers, students and EIT's Digital Team, this role provides technical expertise across a diverse technology environment including Windows and Linux operating systems, Active Directory, Hyper‑V, Microsoft Server technologies, databases, networking infrastructure and cloud technologies. The successful candidate is expected to commence employment in January 2027.

The appointing salary for this role will be between $60,161 and $62,559 (pro-rated to your FTE), dependent on skills and experience.

The Systems Administrator is based in our School of Computing reporting to the Head of School – Computing and will be responsible for:
