Job summary

Access Community Health in Northland is seeking skilled and compassionate Support Workers to assist Tangata with daily living, including palliative care, bowel care, dementia, mental health support, and medication management.

You will provide safe, respectful, person‑centred help in clients’ homes, mindful of culture, values, routines and boundaries. We offer practical onboarding, year‑round training, and clear development pathways for Kaiāwhina.

Qualifications

• Experience with spinal injuries and stoma care.
• Experience with hoists and medication administration.
• Demonstrated ability to support people with diverse needs.
• Commitment to culturally safe, person-centred care.
• Willingness to learn and adapt per person’s needs.

Responsibilities

• Support Tangata with daily living including palliative and dementia care.

Job description

Overview

We are seeking skilled and compassionate Support Workers, while continuing to support equitable entry and workforce development.

Responsibilities

Each Tangata has high‑risk individual care requirements. You will support with all elements of daily living such as palliative care, bowel care, dementia, mental health, and medication management. You will provide safe, respectful, and person‑centred support in people’s homes, mindful of their culture, values, beliefs, routines, and boundaries.

Training

We provide practical and online training during the first few weeks of employment and offer year‑round training with regular refreshers and new modules to keep skills up to date. You’ll be supported through structured induction, ongoing training, refreshers, and clear development pathways.

Qualifications & Skills

• Spinal injury experience
• Stoma management experience
• Experience with full, standing, and two‑person hoists
• Experience administering prescribed medication
• Love working with people and helping them thrive
• Willingness to learn, reflect, and adapt your approach to what matters for each person
• Experience or exposure to caregiving, disability support, aged care, community work, or other people‑facing roles
• Committed to culturally safe, respectful support for people from all backgrounds
• Intuitive and responsive to people’s needs
• Own a smartphone
• Right to work in New Zealand
• Full or restricted driver’s license
