Job summary

Northpower in New Zealand is seeking an experienced Project Supervisor to lead electricity infrastructure projects from planning through to completion. This hands-on role involves coordinating resources, supervising crews, and delivering work safely, on time and within budget, while building strong relationships with customers and stakeholders.

You will bring proven leadership, knowledge of distribution networks, and a strong safety focus, with a commitment to quality and continuous improvement

Qualifications

• National or NZ electrical trade qualification relevant to the role.
• Current practising licence for your trade.
• Experience supervising field crews on infrastructure projects.
• Ideal knowledge of LV/HV distribution networks and safety standards.

About The Role

Northpower is looking for an experienced Project Supervisor to join our team. This is a hands‑on leadership role where you'll oversee the safe, efficient, and successful delivery of electricity infrastructure projects from planning through to completion.

Working closely with Project Managers, Design Estimators, field teams, and customers, you'll be responsible for coordinating resources, supervising crews, monitoring project progress, and ensuring work is delivered safely, on time, to a high standard, and within budget. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys leading from the front, building strong relationships, and taking ownership of project outcomes while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and team performance.

Key responsibilities include

• Supporting project planning, scoping, estimating, and work methodology development


• Leading job briefings and ensuring work is thoroughly planned before crews mobilise


• Supervising field teams and subcontractors to deliver safe and efficient project outcomes


• Conducting site visits to monitor progress, quality, compliance, and productivity


• Managing labour, materials, equipment, and contractor requirements


• Identifying and resolving technical and operational issues in the field


• Maintaining strong customer and stakeholder relationships


• Supporting switching activities as required


• Driving continuous improvement initiatives and lessons learned reviews


• Ensuring all project documentation, testing, reporting, and closeout requirements are completed


• Promoting and championing a strong health, safety, quality, and environmental culture

About You

You're a proven leader with strong technical knowledge of electricity distribution networks and a passion for delivering quality work safely. You know how to motivate teams, manage competing priorities, and build trusted relationships with customers and stakeholders.

To be successful in this role, you'll have

• National Certificate in Electricity Supply Cable Jointer or Line Mechanic Distribution Level 4 or Live Work Level 5, National Certificate in Electrical Engineering Level 4, or equivalent


• Current practising licence relevant to your trade


• Proven experience supervising field crews and delivering infrastructure projects


• Strong knowledge of LV and HV distribution networks and zone substations


• Understanding of industry standards, legislation, codes of practice, and the Safety Manual Electricity Industry (SM‑EI)


• Current NZ Class 1 Driver Licence (Class 2 or 4 desirable)


• Strong planning, problem-solving, and decision‑making abilities


• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills


• A proactive, safety‑first approach to leadership


• Competent computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel


• The ability to lead, coach, and support high‑performing teams
