Job summary

OceanaGold Corporation seeks a senior Open Pit Planning Leader to deliver short and medium-term mine plans, bridging Technical Services with Operations execution in Otago, NZ. Live and work locally in a residential role with a 9-day fortnight roster and a strong safety focus.

You will lead a high-performing team, manage contractors, and drive cost-efficient planning with a data-driven approach. The role offers competitive remuneration and study support.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mine engineering or related discipline essential.
  • Post grad diploma in business or management preferred.
  • 10+ years of open pit mining experience including significant technical experience.
  • Experience in managing teams and contractors.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture across the technical services team.
  • Ensure compliance with all legislative and company requirements.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing Technical Services team through coaching, mentoring and performance management.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure workforce capability, succession planning and resource allocation to meet operational requirements.
  • Provide leadership and governance over short and medium term open pit mine planning activities.
  • Ensure mine designs, schedules and planning support safe, practical and economically optimised outcomes.
  • Monitor performance against budget, forecast and Life of Mine plans; identify risks and opportunities.
  • Ensure survey systems, controls and processes maintain accuracy and reliability.
  • Provide strategic direction and oversight of fleet management systems for safe and efficient mining operations.
  • Ensure critical systems are reliable, compliant and fit for purpose.
  • Lead implementation and continuous improvement of technologies that enhance safety and productivity.

Job Description

Spend more time exploring with aMon-Fri 9 ‑day fortnight roster, so you can enjoy along weekend, every otherweek.

This new position has been created to deliver short and medium term mine plans to enable the safe, efficient and profitable extraction of ore. This role is the key link between the long-term plans originating from the Technical Services and Projects team and the Operationsexecution.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic direction and oversight of fleet management systems to support safe and efficient miningoperations.
  • Ensure critical and statutory systems are reliable, compliant and fit for purpose.
  • Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of technologies that enhance safety, productivity and operational performance.
  • Manage key stakeholder, contractor and vendor relationships to ensure effective service delivery and businessoutcomes.
  • Monitor open pitcosts
  • Manage service and supply contract(s) in accordance with the contract provisions and within OGC contract management frameworks with the aim of delivering the most value forOGC
  • Drive cost reduction initiatives that do not compromise safety orquality
  • Work closely with the Continuous Improvement team to deliver improvement projects
  • Benchmark open pit performance against industry bestpractice.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in mine engineering or related disciplineessential.

  • 10 + years of open pit mining experience including significant technicalexperience
  • Experience in managingteams.
  • Demonstrated contractor and commercial managementexperience
  • Strong knowledge of miningsoftware.
  • Strong knowledge of fleet management principles and datamanagement.
