Hawke’s Bay District Council is offering a paid Summer Internship in Compliance for November 2026 to January/February 2027. The fixed-term placement provides full-time work while you study and hands-on experience in regulatory and records management.

About The opportunity | Ko te āheinga:

This summer, Hawke’s Bay Regional Council is offering a paid Internship Programme to students who are studying towards a formal qualification that directly relates to the work we do here.

There is a summer student placement within the Compliance team which will run between approximately November 2026 to January/February 2027 (don’t worry, we can work the dates around your exams!). This fixed term placement will provide you with interesting, paid, full-time work as well as career development while you study. The opportunity to work and learn with real hands on experience is hugely beneficial to your growth as a student.

The Summer Student - Compliance will provide administrative support to the Compliance Team, working closely with Compliance Coordinators to assist with a range of compliance monitoring and records management activities.

You will work on ensuring compliance monitoring information, reports, and records are accurately processed, maintained, and managed across a range of Council systems. You'll support compliance and enforcement activities through data management, document administration, electronic record keeping, and general team support.

This opportunity will help you to develop valuable skills in data management, regulatory processes, and local government operations in a supportive team, providing a strong foundation for your future career.

We are looking for an enthusiastic student that is well organised, shows high levels of initiative and has the ability to work independently or with a team.

You will also have:

• Recently completed or be studying towards a formal qualification in a relevant field


• An interest in environmental compliance, regulatory processes, or local government operations


• Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage data accurately, prioritise tasks, and maintain attention to detail


• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications


• A valid driver’s licence is preferred but not essential

What we offer | Nga huanga mōu:

The hourly rate for our students is$27.00, plus 8% pay as you go for your annual leave entitlement.
