Job summary

Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington is seeking a qualified mental health clinician to join Mauri Ora - Student Health and Counselling on a permanent, full-time basis. The team includes Counsellor, Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker, Psychotherapist, or Mental Health Nurse.

You will provide short-term counselling or therapy to university students aged 18 to 25, and work within a collaborative, holistic health framework across campus.

Qualifications

• Fully registered with NZ Health Practitioners Competency Act or Social Workers Registration Act and hold a current practising certificate.
• University degree or postgraduate qualification in a mental health- or counselling-related discipline.
• Proven experience in psychology, psychotherapy, social work, or counselling with diverse backgrounds and young adults.
• Experience in holistic mental health assessments and short-term counselling/therapy models.
• Experience in crisis management and intervention.
• Familiarity with cultural safety in working with Māori/Pasifika students and wellbeing models.

Responsibilities

• Provide short-term counselling or therapy to university students aged 18–25.
• Collaborate with medical, nursing, disability services, Student Learning, Wellington International, and other student services.
• Support student wellbeing and academic success through counselling.
• Work flexibly across multiple campus locations.
