Job summary

Victoria University of Wellington’s Mauri Ora – Student Health and Counselling is seeking an experienced mental health clinician to join our Counselling Team as part of the Piki Programme. You will provide short-term counselling to university students aged 18 to 25 and support wellbeing and academic success.

You will join a collegial team, work across campus locations, and engage in regular professional development and supervision to support culturally safe practice.

Qualifications

• Fully registered with NZ Health Practitioners Competency Act or Social Workers Registration Act and current practising certificate.
• University degree or postgraduate qualification in a mental health- or counselling-related discipline.
• Proven experience in psychology, psychotherapy, social work, or counselling.
• Experience in holistic mental health assessments and short-term models of counselling or therapy.
• Experience in mental health crisis management and intervention.

Responsibilities

• Provide short-term counselling or therapy to university students aged 18 to 25 as part of the Piki Programme.
• Support students’ wellbeing and academic success in a holistic, collaborative approach with medical, nursing and other student services.
• Participate in professional development and supervision, including in-house and external supervision.
• Work flexibly across multiple campus locations and in a culturally safe manner with Māori and Pasifika students.
