Harper Smith Recruitment in Hamilton is seeking an experienced Structural Supervisor to lead a busy structural team on heavy civil infrastructure projects, including pump stations and bridges.

You will plan formwork, reinforcement and concrete activities, read drawings, coordinate labour and subcontractors, and ensure quality and safety across delivery. This is an opportunity to grow the structural capability of the business.

Qualifications

  • Experience leading structural teams on heavy civil projects.
  • Strong knowledge of reinforced concrete and formwork.
  • Reading structural drawings and specifications.
  • Experience with pump stations or civil infrastructure is advantageous.

The Opportunity

Our client is a successful, long established and very busy regional civil contracting firm. They are recruiting for an experienced Structural Supervisor / Structures Lead to take a key role and deliver a strong forward workload, to oversee an existing structural team and eliversignificant concrete and formwork requirements associated with its civil infrastructure and pump station projects. They're now looking for someone who can take ownership of that work. For an experienced Structural Supervisor, this is an opportunity to lead a good team and deliver technically interesting structural projects. For someone with the experience and leadership capability to effectively run the structural side of the operation, our client is open to making this a considerably bigger role. A background in pump stations, bridges, tanks, reservoirs, treatment plants, retaining structures or other heavy civil concrete work would be highly regarded. Relevant trade or engineering qualifications are advantageous, but proven experience and capability are what really matter.

The Work

A significant part of the current structural workload supports our clients pump station and civil infrastructure projects. You'll be dealing with:

  • Reinforced concrete structures
  • Formwork and falsework
  • Reinforcing steel
  • In situ Concrete pours
  • Structural drawings and specifications
  • Doka formwork systems
  • Embedded items and penetrations
  • Temporary works
  • Site crews and subcontractors
  • Quality and construction methodology

Our client also sees an opportunity to expand its structural capability further, including into other specialist civil structures. For the right person, there is genuine scope to help shape and grow this part of the business.

The Role

You'll take responsibility for planning and delivering structural works, including:

  • Leading and coordinating the existing structural team
  • Planning formwork, reinforcing and concrete activities
  • Coordinating labour, plant, materials and subcontractors
  • Reading and interpreting structural drawings
  • Planning and managing concrete pours
  • Managing formwork systems and temporary works
  • Working closely with Project Managers and Engineers
  • Ensuring structural works meet quality requirements
  • Managing programme and productivity
  • Maintaining strong health and safety standards
  • Solving construction and buildability issues
  • Mentoring and developing members of the team
  • Looking ahead and ensuring upcoming works are properly resourced
