Job summary

The New Zealand Government is seeking a Principal Procurement Specialist based in Wellington to lead high-value procurement initiatives across corporate, digital and school portfolios. You will shape strategies and guide end-to-end activity from planning and market engagement through to contract award.

You will mentor procurement specialists and contribute to a culture of collaboration, quality, and continuous improvement to deliver outcomes for learners across Aotearoa.

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading complex, high-value procurement and tender processes.
• Strong knowledge of Government Procurement Rules and public sector procurement best practice.
• Exceptional stakeholder management skills with ability to influence across diverse groups.
• Commercial acumen and negotiation skills that deliver value while managing risk.
• Analytical thinking with the ability to identify opportunities and provide evidence-based advice.
• Experience working in large or complex organisations with shifting priorities.
• Collaborative leadership with coaching and development of others.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, able to simplify complex concepts.
