Job summary

Selwyn District Council in Canterbury is seeking a Project Manager for Corporate Plans & Reports. You will lead development and delivery of the Long-Term Plan, Annual Plans and Annual Reports, ensuring statutory obligations and audit requirements are met.

You'll collaborate with senior managers, elected members and the community to shape our strategic direction, drive continuous improvement and report on progress, risks and outcomes.

Qualifications

• At least 10 years' experience in project management.
• At least 5 years' experience delivering Long-Term Plans, Annual Plans and/or Annual Reports, ideally in local government.
• A recognised project management qualification (e.g. PRINCE2, PMP).
• Strong relationship management skills, with confidence engaging senior leaders, elected members, Audit Office and external stakeholders.
• Excellent organisational and communication skills — able to translate complexity into clear, actionable insights.
• Resilience and adaptability, with the ability to deliver under pressure and within statutory timeframes.

Responsibilities

• Leading the end-to-end development, consultation, audit, and adoption of the Long-Term Plan, Annual Plans, and Annual Reports, ensuring compliance with legislation and audit standards.
• Applying recognised project management methodologies to ensure statutory requirements and timeframes are met.
• Collaborating and coordinating with senior managers, elected members, Audit Office, stakeholders, and the community to deliver high-quality outcomes.
• Provide regular reporting on progress, risks, and issues to senior leadership and stakeholders.
• Facilitating lessons-learned reviews and embed improvements into future planning and reporting cycles.
• Contributing to strengthening Council's performance and governance by ensuring continuous improvement and value for money.
