Job summary

Stats NZ Tatauranga Aotearoa is seeking a Manager - Community Engagement & Insights to backfill a fixed term role in the Strategic Engagement, Māori Partnerships and Outcomes branch until 30 June 2028. You will lead engagement with communities, iwi Māori and data customers, and oversee systems that capture and apply engagement insights to inform decisions.

Qualifications

• Proven leadership of geographically dispersed or remotely based teams.
• Strong operational management translating strategy into priorities and measurable delivery.
• Strategic thinking connecting regional activity to national priorities.
• Experience leading complex engagement, partnerships, customer, community, or insights functions in public sector.
• Experience managing health and safety risks in public-facing engagement or events.
• Ability to use qualitative information to support analysis and decision-making.
• Credibility with senior leaders and external partners in presenting complex information.

Responsibilities

• Engage with communities, iwi Māori, data customers and networks in a purposeful, coordinated way.
• Oversee operational systems and processes enabling a strong community presence and safe capture of engagement insights.
• Set direction for the team using the Strategic Engagement Model and manage the Engagement Insights pipeline.
• Ensure engagement work aligns with organisational priorities and contributes to evidence-informed decisions.
• Support Tiriti-centred, culturally grounded and inclusive approaches; promote te reo Māori capability where possible.
• Lead teams to deliver reliable outcomes while maintaining health and safety considerations for public-facing activities.
