Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Taranaki is seeking an experienced clinician to fill the role of Acute Capacity & Flow Manager. Based in New Plymouth, you will lead hospital-wide patient flow, bed management, and discharge activity, ensuring timely and safe patient placement across the facility.

Qualifications

• Emergency Department or acute hospital experience is essential.
• Postgraduate qualification at certificate level or above.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills are required.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day hospital capacity and patient flow management.
• Oversee inpatient capacity, occupancy, admissions, transfers and discharges.
• Coordinate bed allocation and patient placement decisions.
• Manage operational responses to demand surges and capacity pressures.
• Facilitate daily flow meetings, escalation huddles and capacity discussions.
• Support achievement of emergency and acute care performance targets.
• Collaborate with nursing, medical and operational leaders to reduce delays and improve patient journeys.
