Job summary

Downer is hiring an experienced STMS for our Dunedin team. You will oversee temporary traffic management plans, lead toolbox and closure briefings, and ensure safety for crews, subbies, and the public on mid-to-large scale projects.

This permanent, on-site role may require occasional on-call duties to support night or weekend operations. The ideal candidate holds a current STMS warrant (A/B or Level 1/2), a Class 2 license, and strong leadership and planning skills.

Qualifications

• A valid STMS warrant (A/B or Level 1/2) is essential.
• Full Class 2 Drivers License is highly desirable.
• Strong planning skills and the ability to deal with unexpected events and problem solve.
• Demonstrated leadership strength with the ability to guide, coach, and empower others.
• Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
• Flexibility and adaptability due to the outdoor nature of the role.
• Show commitment to safe work practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead toolbox and closure briefings with crew, providing clear job details and expectations to TMOs.
• Train and upskill our STMS and junior STMS.
• Ensure the safety of Downer crew, subcontractors, and the general public.

As an STMS, you will ensure the accurate following of temporary traffic management plans and oversee set up and pack down of road closures and diversions.

• You will be confident leading toolbox and closure briefings with crew, whilst providing clear job details and expectations to TMO's.
• Willing and able to train and upskill our and junior STMS'
• Ensure the safety of the Downer crew, subbies, and the general public

This STMS role is primarily a Monday - Friday, full time-permanent position based in Dunedin. This could involve occasional weekend and night work, and will require the ability to perform on-call/emergency response duties at times.
