Job summary

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs - Hudson Valley VA Medical Center is seeking a Medical Support Technician in the Sterile Processing Service (SPS) under the Associate Director of Patient Care Services.

GS-6 MST duties include cleaning, disinfection, sterilization, case cart assembly, instrument inspection, and operating sterilizers; strong adherence to safety and sterility standards, with opportunities for on-shift training and cross-department work.

Qualifications

• Citizenship: U.S. citizenship required.
• Six months of experience performing sterile processing work.
• One year of higher education with health care related courses.
• Equivalent education and experience acceptable.
• CRCST certification from HSPCA or CBSPD preferred.
• Foreign education must be evaluated for equivalence.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for cleaning, preparation, sterilization and storage of reusable medical equipment.
• Disassembles, inspects and loads case carts for sterilization.
• Operates sterilizers and related equipment following manufacturer guidelines.
• Maintains inventory and documents activities in electronic systems.
• Covers other shifts as needed within the Sterile Processing Service.
