Job summary

Tekapo Springs seeks an engaging Stargazing Guide to entertain guests during the night under a spectacular night sky. You will lead stargazing tours using telescopes, lasers, and virtual reality while ensuring guest safety and enjoyment.

The role requires hospitality experience, astronomy enthusiasm, and excellent English communication. You’ll work evenings, weekends, and public holidays with opportunities for training and career progression in a world-renowned stargazing setting.

Qualifications

• At least 2-year work experience in hospitality or related qualification.
• Passion for astronomy and keen learner.
• Ability to remain focused and keep guests safe and entertained.
• Comfortable addressing groups of up to 40 guests.
• Photography knowledge, especially astrophotography.
• Fluent in English; a second language is a plus.
• First Aid qualifications and Lifeguard/Aquatics certifications.

• Entertain customers during the night as part of the Stargazing Guides team
• Conduct stargazing tours using state-of-the-art telescopes, lasers and virtual reality
• Ensure guests feel safe and entertained throughout the experience
• Work evenings, weekends, and public holidays
• Address groups of up to approximately 40 guests

About you

• At least 2-year work experience in hospitality, preferably in tour guiding, or a tertiary qualification in hospitality, culture communication, or similar
• Keen learner with a passion for astronomy
• Ability to remain focused and care about keeping people safe and entertained
• Comfortable addressing groups of up to approximately 40 guests
• Photography knowledge in particular for astrophotography and related technologies
• Natural entertainer with great people skills and commitment to ensuring a unique and unforgettable guest experience
• High level of fluency in English and ideally a second language

• $28.00 per hour starting rate with guaranteed 30 hours per week
