Rutherford College is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic and well‑organised Sports Assistant to join our vibrant and high‑performing sports department. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting the delivery of sport and physical recreation at Rutherford College, helping our students thrive through participation, teamwork, and achievement. Reporting to the Director of Sport, you will be responsible for assisting with the day‑to‑day administration, coordination, and promotion of sporting activities across the school. This role requires excellent organisational and communication skills, a proactive attitude, and the ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, coaches, and the wider community.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate and maintain accurate records of sports registrations, draws, results and team information.
Manage logistics for sports events and tournaments, including permissions, travel, and accommodation.
Promote sporting activities and achievements across school channels, including newsletters, assemblies, and social media.
Assist with the organisation of major school sporting events such as Athletics,Swimming, and Cross Country.
Maintain and manage sports uniforms, equipment, and storage areas.
Support coaches, managers, and volunteers with training sessions, event setup, and communication.
Help ensure all sporting activities comply with school policies and health and safety regulations.
About You
You’ll be a dynamic team player who thrives in a busy environment and enjoys working with young people. Ideally, you will have:
Strong administrative and organisational skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
A genuine passion for sport and youth participation - make sure you advise us what areas of sport you are passionate about.
The ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
Competence with digital tools and record‑keeping systems (experience with KAMAR or similar is advantageous).
Have a full clean driver's licence.
The hours are 37.5 hours per week during term time only (40 weeks per year approx). The hours of work may vary depending on the requirements of the role. While the majority of hours will be worked during normal school hours, some work may be required outside these hours, including occasional evenings and Saturdays, to meet the operational needs of the school.
This position commences 25 January 2027.

Terms: This position is covered by the Support Staff in Schools Collective Agreement and sits at Grade 4 on the Administrative Pay scale, and is dependent on qualifications and experience.
