Job summary

Avani Queenstown Shores Resort in Queenstown, New Zealand is seeking an experienced Sous Chef to support the Head Chef, lead a diverse kitchen team, and ensure consistently high-quality dishes and dining experiences for guests.

You will supervise operations, manage costs, assist in menu development, and recruit and rost er staff while maintaining safety and presentation standards across shifts. This full-time role offers career growth and access to Minor Hotels’ global perks.

Qualifications

• Certificate III in Commercial Cookery is required.
• Minimum two years’ experience as Sous Chef.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Direct and support kitchen team to ensure excellence in all dishes.
• Oversee staff performance and maintain high product standards.
• Assist in menu creation and cost analysis to maintain profitability.
• Manage inventory, back-of-house expenses, and rostering.
• Uphold health, safety, sanitation, and food standards.
• Recruit and train kitchen staff; oversee induction and rostering.
• Refine recipes to meet diverse dietary needs and allergies.
