Job summary

Fonterra, a global dairy co-operative, is seeking a Solution Architect - Data to turn Finance and business requirements into scalable data solutions. You’ll work hands-on with source data, using SQL and Databricks to shape models and mappings.

This role combines data engineering and solution design, providing guidance to Associate Solution Architects and collaborating with Data Engineers and BI teams to deliver trusted finance data products for analytics and emerging AI use cases.

The vision for oCFO Data & AI is to ‘automate and augment finance with Data & AI’, which we have been progressing via a roadmap of data product development and selective AI POC’s. Building on success, we are now increasing team capability in data governance, data architecture and product design, and AI. As we expand our team, we are looking to hire a Solution Architect - Data.

About the Opportunity | Mō tēnei tūranga

As a Solution Architect - Data, you’ll be a hands‑on technical practitioner responsible for turning complex Finance and business requirements into practical, scalable and reusable data solutions.

You’ll work directly with source data, using SQL and Databricks to understand structures, relationships and data quality; design conceptual, logical, physical and dimensional models; develop source‑to‑target mappings; and work alongside Data Engineers and BI teams to ensure solutions are implemented as designed.

You’ll also provide technical guidance and design support to Associate Solution Architects and other delivery team members, helping solve complex modelling and data challenges and improving our standards and ways of working. This is a technical guidance role rather than a people‑management role, with both Solution Architect and Associate Solution Architect roles forming part of the wider Data & AI team.

This is an opportunity to combine hands‑on data engineering and modelling expertise with solution design, helping build trusted, reusable Finance data products that support analytics, reporting and emerging AI use cases.

About You | Mōu

You’re an experienced data professional who enjoys staying close to the data and solving complex problems hands‑on.

You’re equally comfortable writing SQL and profiling source data as you are building an ERD, designing a dimensional model, defining source‑to‑target mappings or working through requirements with Finance stakeholders.

You understand that good architecture is not just about producing designs. You’re prepared to work through the detail, test assumptions against the underlying data and partner closely with Data Engineers and BI teams to ensure the solution works in practice.

You’ll also enjoy sharing your experience with others, providing practical technical guidance and constructive design feedback while continuing to own and deliver technical work yourself.
