Job summary

Serko is building the next-gen business travel marketplace from Auckland, NZ. You’ll shape the application experience layer, delivering web apps, BFFs, and Python-backed endpoints that connect customers to our platform.

You’ll collaborate with Product and Design, implement accessible, responsive interfaces, and ship small, high-impact features frequently. Join a team focused on quality, AI-driven solutions, and customer impact.

Responsibilities

• Implement accessible designs, responsive behavior, and handle empty/loading/error states.
• Build BFF endpoints in Python as needed.

• Operate in a developer-empowered way; write tests from requirements and verify before shipping.
• Lead small projects with coaching and planning.
• Deploy and support what's built, including on-call and infra changes.
• Suggest ideas to improve how the team works and what it ships.

Working within a highly supportive team, you will shape the application experience layer—building the web apps, BFFs, and orchestration services that connect our platform directly to the customer. With light-touch guidance, you will elevate the craft, accessibility, and quality of our user-facing products.

You are someone who understands the "why" behind the work, operates with high agency, and ships small, high-impact changes frequently.

What you\'ll do

• Work closely with Product, Design and Engineering, modelling strong engineering standards and teamwork.
• Understand the customer problem and success measure, and check that what you ship moves it.
• Help shape work into small, shippable slices with requirements anyone, or any agent, could check.
• Independently deliver well-scoped features to production, in line with our stack and design system.
• Implement designs faithfully and accessibly, including responsive behaviour and empty, error and loading states.
• Build and extend the BFF endpoints your features need in Python.
• Build AI and agent-powered features for customers using our established patterns for streaming, latency, errors and non-deterministic output.
• Work agentically by default, giving agents clear tasks and context, writing tests from requirements first and verifying output before it ships.
• Make reversible calls yourself; escalate anything that changes what ships or is costly to undo.
• Lead small projects with coaching, planning the work, running stand-ups and keeping stakeholders informed.
• Deploy and support what you build, including on-call and infrastructure changes with guidance, and instrument both system health and customer outcomes.
• Contribute ideas that improve how the team works and what it ships.

What you\'ll bring

• Solid React/Next.js and TypeScript, and customer-facing features shipped to production.
• Working experience building APIs in Python or another backend language.
• Accessibility fundamentals, including semantic HTML, keyboard navigation, colour contrast and ARIA.
• Plans and executes work effectively, balancing speed and quality and adapting when priorities shift.
• Designs small, simple, maintainable solutions that avoid common security vulnerabilities.
• Contributes to team technical discussions and recognises dependencies in the team\'s system.
• Uses tests, metrics and dashboards to improve quality and reliability.
• Deliberately builds understanding of the code you ship, so judgement grows alongside agentic productivity.
• Supports peers through review and knowledge sharing, helps align the team around agreed approaches, and shows awareness of others\' perspectives.
• Own your growth, setting goals, seeking feedback and keeping a record of your impact.
