Job summary

BECA in Auckland is seeking an intermediate Software Engineer to design, develop and test embedded/mission-critical software across defence, aviation, maritime and other regulated sectors.

You will work with hardware-interfacing software and real-world environments, contributing across the software lifecycle and delivering robust solutions within a collaborative team.

Qualifications

  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a New Zealand Government Security Clearance is a mandatory requirement for this role.
  • Applicants must hold New Zealand Citizenship or New Zealand Permanent Residency to be considered.
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in software engineering or a similar role.
  • Ability to document technical design in detail, producing documentation to support the project outcomes you produce.
  • Experience developing software for embedded, real-time, or systems-focused environments.
  • Experience working on software that interfaces with hardware, electronics, sensors, control systems, or integrated platforms.

Join Beca's Applied Technology business and help deliver complex, mission-critical software systems across the defence, aviation, maritime, and other highly regulated sectors. As a Software Engineer, you'll work on advanced technologies where software, hardware, and systems engineering come together to solve real-world challenges.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you'll contribute across the software lifecycle, from design and development through to integration, testing, and deployment. You'll provide technical delivery support and collaborate closely with clients to deliver robust, high-quality solutions.

This role offers the opportunity to work on impactful projects while further developing your technical expertise and leadership capability in a collaborative and supportive environment.

In this role you will:

We're looking for an intermediate software engineer who enjoys solving complex problems and working on systems where software interacts closely with hardware and operational environments. You'll bring strong technical capability, sound engineering judgement, and a collaborative approach.

Key attributes for success in this role include:
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a New Zealand Government Security Clearance is a mandatory requirement for this role.

  • Experience working in aerospace, aviation (civil, government, or defence), maritime, nuclear, defence, or other safety-critical, highly regulated industries is highly regarded.
  • A tertiary qualification or relevant industry experience in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering Science, or a related discipline.
  • Important: The successful candidate must be eligible to obtain an NZDF Defence Site Clearance or National Security Clearance.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a New Zealand Government Security Clearance is a mandatory requirement for this position.
