Job summary

The Ministry of Social Development (MSD) in Wellington is seeking a Contract and Licensing Specialist to manage software contracts, licensing information and renewals. You will optimise usage, support audits and provide transparency and compliance across IST and the organisation.

You'll lead negotiations with major vendors, maintain an up-to-date software asset inventory and collaborate with internal teams to align purchases with budgets and policies. This is a permanent role based in Wellington.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in a contract, licensing or software asset management role within a large organisation.
• Experience with software licensing tools such as ServiceNow, Flexera or Snow.
• Understanding of cloud licensing and enterprise agreements.
• Familiarity with government purchasing rules and tender policies.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with major vendors and internal teams to review contract terms, pricing and renewal conditions.
• Manage end-to-end software renewals process including quotes and true-ups.
• Maintain an up-to-date inventory of software assets, subscriptions and cloud licenses.
• Identify unused or underutilised licenses and recommend reallocations or cancellations.
• Assist with new software requests and evaluate licensing constructs (SaaS, tokens, user-based).
• Monitor licensing and prepare reports for audits and governance.
