Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora in Christchurch Hospital is seeking a Social Worker to join the Neonatal Intensive Care unit on a permanent part-time basis (0.6FTE, 24 hours per week). You will support families from Kaikoura to Timaru, providing assessment, monitoring and care in a busy NICU alongside multidisciplinary teams.

The role requires NZ Registration and Annual Practising Certificate, and includes an on-call roster for weekends and public holidays, with 5-day flexibility.

Qualifications

• Understanding grief and loss
• An understanding of Trauma, is desired but not essential
• The ability to speak Te Reo is desirable
• NZ Registration and Current Annual practising is essential

About the Role

Our team is a professional and highly skilled Social Work team, who display a positive attitude and enthusiasm for health social work.

We enjoy the challenge of delivering patient centred care in a fluid and dynamic multidisciplinary environment.

We respond to a diverse range of health and social needs, no two days are the same, as we provide a 24/7 service with six teams across the Christchurch Hospital Campus.

Based at Christchurch Hospital in the Neonatal Intensive Care unit supporting families from Kaikoura in the North to Timaru in the South, including the West Coast.

Your will be with families who's had a premature baby, or a baby requiring additional medical attention at birth.

This is an exciting role offering short- and long-term Social Work support for all families with babies in the Neonatal unit.

While the role is primarily based with theNeonatal Intensive Care unit, you may be redeployed at times to meet service needs.

This part-time role will be worked across 5-days, with some flexibility around hours of work.

Participation in an on-call roster for weekends and public holidays is also required in thisrole.

About You

This role focuses on the Neonatal ICU services. You will provide assessment, monitoring and support for families accessing this service. You will have a passion for working with babies and their whanau. You will be an effective team member working within multidisciplinary teams to achieve a high standard of patient care and positive health outcomes. You will have connections with external agencies such as Oranga Tamariki, Work and lncome and other community NGOs.

Based in a busy ICU ward you will need to:

• Be passionate about working with babies and their whanau
• Be able to work under pressure, prioritising and managing your own workload while being an effective team member
• Have excellent and engagement skills
• Have a good understanding of Care and Protection and Family harm
• Be adaptable, able work in all areas of the hospital
