Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, Christchurch Hospital, invites experienced health social workers to join the Social Work Services team on the Christchurch campus. This fixed-term 0.5FTE (20 hours/week) role runs Wed–Fri 8:00–15:30, with an additional 0.4FTE (16 hours/week) option Mon–Tue 7:30–16:00.

A combined 0.9FTE is possible; please indicate preference in your cover letter. You will perform psychosocial assessments, participate in team meetings, and provide cover for the 24hr social work

Qualifications

  • Current APC and NZ Registration is required.
  • Experience in health social work within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to relate to people from all walks of life.
  • Willingness to cover varied shifts and participate in service development.

Job description

Social Work Services at Christchurch Hospital are looking for experienced health Social Workers to join our team working across the Christchurch campus in fixed term positions. Our team is a professional and highly skilled Social Work team, who display a positive attitude and enthusiasm for health social work. We enjoy the challenge of delivering patient centred care in a fluid and dynamic multidisciplinary environment. We respond to a diverse range of health and social needs, where no two days are the same.

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.

The available role is fixed term 0.5FTE (20 hours per week) until 27th March 2027. Shifts will be Wednesday to Friday between 8:00am - 3:30pm. We are also seeking expressions of interest for 0.4FTE (16 hours per week) until 5th Jan 2027. This role's shifts would be Monday and Tuesday, 7:30am - 4:00pm. These could be combined as a 0.9FTE role (36 hours per week), please indicate your preference and availability for shifts in your cover letter.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Psychosocial assessment, monitoring and support of people within the service in accordance with ANZASW Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice and the SWRB Core Competency Standards
  • Attendance and participation in the social work team and staff meetings
  • Providing cover to our 24hr social work service as required on a rostered basis
  • Participation in service development and quality assurance initiatives/processes

This role will see you working alongside different multidisciplinary teams so being a team player who can quickly adapt will be essential to your success, as well as the following skills/ experience:

  • A passion for working with adults, children and their families/wh nau
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to relate to people from all walks of life
  • Hospital experience is advantageous, as is experience with Care and Protection, Family Harm, and Trauma
  • Knowledge of te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
  • Competency in the use of digital technology
  • You will be able to work effectively in teams and independently
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and organisational skills
  • The ability to work within a Multidisciplinary team
  • The ability to flex and adapt to meet work demands
  • Current APC and NZ Registration is required
