Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora - Southern invites expressions of interest for experienced health Social Workers to join Christchurch Hospital’s Social Work Services on fixed-term positions. Roles include 0.5FTE (20 hours) until 27 March 2027 and 0.4FTE (16 hours) until 5 Jan 2027, with potential to combine into 0.9FTE (36 hours/week).

Shifts are Wednesday to Friday 8:00am–3:30pm, or Monday and Tuesday 7:30am–4:00pm depending on the role.

Qualifications

  • Psychosocial assessment and support for patients and their families
  • Excellent communication with diverse groups
  • Experience in multidisciplinary teams is preferred
  • APC/NZ registration or eligibility is required or advantageous

About the Role

Social Work Servicesat Christchurch Hospital are lookingfor experienced health SocialWorkers to join our team workingacross the Christchurch campus in fixed term positions. Our team is a professional and highly skilled Social Work team, who display a positive attitude and enthusiasm for health social work. We enjoy the challenge of delivering patient centred care in a fluid and dynamic multidisciplinary environment. We respond to a diverse range of health and social needs, where no two days are the same.

The available role is fixed term 0.5FTE (20 hours per week) until 27th March 2027. Shifts will be Wednesday to Friday between 8:00am - 3:30pm. We are also seeking expressions of interest for 0.4FTE (16 hours per week) until 5th Jan 2027. This role's shifts would be Monday and Tuesday, 7:30am - 4:00pm. These could be combined as a 0.9FTE role (36 hours per week), please indicate your preference and availability for shifts in your cover letter.

In this role, youwill be responsible for:

  • Psychosocial assessment, monitoringand support of people withinthe service in accordancewith ANZASW Code of Ethics and Standards of Practiceand the SWRB Core CompetencyStandards
  • Attendance and participation in the social work team and staff meetings
  • Providing cover to our 24hr social work service as required on a rosteredbasis
  • Participation in service development and quality assuranceinitiatives/processes
About You

This role will see you working alongside different multidisciplinary teams so being a team player who can quickly adapt will be essential to your success, as well as the following skills/ experience:

  • A passion for working with adults, childrenand their families/wh nau
  • Excellent communication skillsand the abilityto relate to people from all walks of life
  • Hospital experience is advantageous, as is experience with Care and Protection, Family Harm, and Trauma
  • Knowledge of te ao M ori,tikanga, and te reo M ori or a commitment to starting your journeyand taking ownership of your learning and growth
  • Competency in the use of digital technology
  • You will be able to work effectively in teams and independently
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and organisational skills
  • The ability to work within a Multidisciplinary team
  • The ability to flex and adapt to meet work demands
  • Current APC and NZ Registration is required
