Job summary

Kraft Heinz is seeking a Shift Electrician for the Hastings site. You will perform planned and unplanned electrical maintenance, support minor projects, and provide automation support on the shop floor. PLC programming, wiring motors, and troubleshooting sensors are core responsibilities.

You will work night shifts (10pm–6am) and contribute to world-class reliability while ensuring Health and Safety compliance. NZ experience in food/beverage is preferred.

Qualifications

• NZQA Level 4 Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
• EWRB registration or eligible for registration.
• Food or beverage industry experience preferred.
• Previous experience in a similar role.
• Strong written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Certified in LOTO or willing to undertake training within first month.
• Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Carry out breakdown repairs and planned maintenance on equipment.
• Install, maintain and repair industrial electrical equipment and systems.
• Diagnose electrical issues, especially with 3-phase motors, sensors, and automation.
• Maintain automation systems and PLC programming.
• Wiring motors and troubleshooting sensors.
• Ensure all work meets H&S standards and regulations.
• Support production and site services; assist with training and continuous improvement.
• Input labour and create work orders in Mainpac.

The Role

The Shift Electrician is an integral part of our maintenance team and will provide World Class maintenance support across the site. Under the direction of the Shift Maintenance Lead, you will perform planned and unplanned maintenance, support minor projects and improvements, complete job reporting, and provide electrical support for production and other departments. This role requires a strong hands‑on presence, spending the majority of time on the shop floor attending to breakdowns, identifying and implementing improvements, and taking on minor projects as required. A strong skill set in automation and programming is important for this role, including PLC programming, wiring motors and troubleshooting sensors.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out breakdown repairs, preventative & corrective maintenance on equipment to achieve world class line reliability and efficiency.
• Install, maintain and repair industrial electrical equipment, machinery and systems.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical issues, particularly with three phase motors, sensors and automation equipment.
• Maintain automation systems.
• PLC programming.
• Wiring motors and troubleshooting sensors.
• Ensure all work meets H&S standards as well as all other regulatory requirements.
• Support Production Departments and Site Services including troubleshooting, training and continuous improvement.
• Liaison with and support to other Maintenance team members.
• Work within the Mainpac system inputting labour and creating work orders.
• Contribute to achieving business sustainability targets through efficient use and disposal of water, gas, electricity and solid waste.
• Demonstrate role model behaviour in following company Health and Safety policy.
• Work with PLC’s, VSD’s, HMI’s and other automation gear (ability to fault find using Rockwell automation software is an advantage).

Required Skills

• EWRB licence.
• FF Trade qualified.
• Food or beverage industry experience.
• Previous experience in a similar role.
• Strong written information ability.

• Ability to work independently but also as part of a team.
• Ability to communicate with production and technical team.
• Ability to follow procedures and processes.
• Certified in LOTO or willing to undertake training within the first month of joining.
• Basic level computer ability.

Education

• NZQA Level 4 Electrical Engineering + EWRB registered.
• Proven previous work experience in a similar field.
