Job summary

Hamilton City Council in Hamilton, Waikato, is seeking a Principal Transport Engineer to lead complex transport projects, shape network plans, and provide strategic technical advice across the sub-region. You will guide corridor investigations, review transport assessments, mentor colleagues, and collaborate with developers, mana whenua and agencies to align transport with land use and growth.

This is a permanent, full-time role with a starting salary in the range of $151,000 to $167,000.

Qualifications

• A relevant tertiary qualification in Civil/Transport Engineering.
• 10+ years’ senior technical experience in transportation infrastructure.
• Strong programme and project leadership with consultants and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex transport projects and investigations, directing consultants and multidisciplinary teams.
• Shape network plans and investment priorities, aligning transport infrastructure with land use and city growth.
• Review transport impact assessments, modelling outputs and business cases, providing clear technical advice and recommendations.
• Guide corridor investigations and designation processes, resolving technical issues and priorities.
• Negotiate infrastructure outcomes and represent Council with developers and partner agencies.
• Mentor colleagues and strengthen technical capability across the team.
