Job summary

Stats NZ in Christchurch seeks an experienced Senior Test Engineer to help build and improve data services and testing processes. You will plan and execute functional and non-functional testing across a major programme, working with a multidisciplinary team to ensure robust, reliable, and fit-for-purpose solutions.

You’ll contribute to test strategies, conduct manual and automated testing, and drive quality improvements across the project.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in software testing, including test automation.
• Strong SQL and Python skills.
• Experience with testing tools, frameworks (Selenium, Pytest) and CI/CD.
• Knowledge of modern data platforms (Databricks, Snowflake).
• Familiarity with BDD/Gherkin and writing maintainable tests.
• Good communication and collaboration across teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement test strategies, plans and approaches.
• Perform manual and automated testing to verify requirements.
• Collaborate with project teams to foster quality and accountability.
• Learn Stats NZ domain knowledge and data processes.
• Identify, track and manage defects with appropriate tools.
• Conduct test reviews to ensure coverage and standards.
