Job summary

Woolworths Group in New Zealand is seeking a Senior Technical Data Analyst to drive the operation and evolution of the Commercial Buying platform. The purpose of the wiqNZ team is to unlock the power of data to imagine retail, which contributes to making Kiwis’ lives a little better every day. We work closely with all WWNZ business units, as well as with the broader wiq team.

What you will do:

The wiqNZ team is seeking a technical, commercially minded Senior Data Analyst to drive the operation and evolution of the Commercial Buying platform, which is heavily used in daily operations to improve retail experiences for New Zealanders. Working alongside NZ Commercial leadership and analytics teams across Australia and India, you will empower a small but mighty squad of analysts using your strong expertise in SQL, Python, and Excel to deliver high-impact analytical solutions.

  • Technical Delivery: Operate, and evolve business-facing toolkits using SQL, Python, Excel, and DBT.
  • Roadmap Execution: Drive the technical evolution and continuous improvement of the Commercial Buying platform.
  • Data Pipelines & Quality: Manage pipeline refreshes, maintain high data integrity and governance.
  • Problem Solving: Diagnose and resolve complex data and tooling issues while triaging stakeholder queries.
  • Global Collaboration: Build strong relationships with cross-functional analytics teams across New Zealand, Australia, and India.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Support business strategy, track tool outcomes, and drive high adoption of standardized platforms.
  • Technical Mentorship: Guide junior analysts, perform quality assurance on squad deliverables, and foster team innovation.
What you’ll bring:

By setting high standards, establishing robust operational systems, you foster a culture of technical ownership, courage and continuous innovation.

  • Excel/Google Sheets: Advanced functions, data visualization, and process automation (Macros, VBA, AppScript etc).
  • Data Analysis & Maintenance: Fluent in complex SQL, performance optimization, and orchestration tools (DBT, Airflow). Exposure to data modelling and engineering practices are highly beneficial.
  • Python: Proficient in data wrangling and manipulation (Pandas) with working knowledge of Git source control.
  • Additional Tech: Familiarity with cloud platforms (GCP, BigQuery), strong end-to-end troubleshooting and an AI first mindset will be highly beneficial.
  • Analytics Delivery: Proven track record in project ownership and driving continuous improvement.
  • Core Competencies: Strong commercial acumen, complex problem-solving, meticulous attention to data quality, and clear communication.
  • Industry Domain: Familiarity with the Retail or FMCG sectors is desirable but not compulsory.
  • Education: Tertiary degree in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
