Statistics New Zealand seeks a senior infrastructure professional to design, implement, administer and continuously improve critical platforms and services. You will operate in a hybrid environment, leading design activities, supporting Azure and on‑premises systems, and driving automation for reliable digital services.

You will mentor others, champion best practices in security and infrastructure, and contribute to strategic tech initiatives shaping NZ’s data and insights capabilities.

Qualifications

• Proven experience designing, operating and supporting highly available, secure and scalable enterprise systems.
• Strong experience managing hybrid infrastructure environments, including Microsoft Azure and on-premises platforms.
• Expertise across Windows and Linux server technologies, virtualisation and infrastructure services.
• Experience with automation, CI/CD pipelines, source control and continuous improvement practices.
• Strong security capability, including vulnerability management, system hardening, monitoring and incident response.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, administer and continuously improve critical infrastructure platforms and services.
• Lead technical design activities for enterprise systems and cloud/on-premises platforms.
• Support cloud and on-premises platforms, drive automation and operational improvements.
• Contribute to strategic technology initiatives enabling reliable digital services.
• Mentor others and champion best practice in infrastructure and security.
• Influence future direction of technology services through collaboration with stakeholders.
• Translate business needs into effective technical solutions.
