Job summary

Public Trust, based in Auckland, seeks a Senior Solicitor in the Retail Legal team to advise on wills, estates, conveyancing and related areas. You will lead two Auckland-based solicitors and contribute to a customer-focused culture while supporting the General Counsel Retail.

Applicants should hold an LLB, NZ practice certificate, and 8+ years PQE with 5+ in relevant areas. Strong leadership, communication skills, and a team-focused approach are essential.

About the role | Mō te tūranga

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Solicitor within the Retail Legal team based in Auckland. Reporting to the General Counsel Retail, and operating in a close-knit team, you will provide legal advice and support to our Retail network in relation to Public Trust products and services.

Other key responsibilities in this role are to:

  • Provide cost effective, timely and high-quality specialist legal advice on complex wills, estate administration, conveyancing, inter vivo and Charitable Trusts, property orders and EPAs under the PPPR Act (including liaising with the courts and attendances where necessary).
  • Provide line management of two solicitors based in Auckland.
  • Maintain a customer-centered performance culture with consistent high levels of customer service.
  • Undertake portfolio and other responsibilities as allocated by the General Counsel, Retail.
  • Proactively share best practice and encourage collaboration and teamwork across Public Trust to ensure the best outcome for all stakeholders.

As an experienced Solicitor, you will have a strong eye for detail, superior organisation skills and thrive under pressure. The successful candidate will have excellent time management and the ability to deliver a high standard of work within set time frames. You will have experience leading people. You will enjoy working as part of a team and lead by example. This role is located in Auckland.

In addition, you will need:

  • An LLB with a minimum of 8 years' PQE and minimum of 5 years' experience in relevant areas of law: Trusts and estates law (other relevant combination of experience and PQE may be considered).
  • Some experience leading and managing solicitors.
  • Litigation experience is desirable. While this is not necessary, you will have a desire to develop in this area.
  • A current New Zealand Law Society practising certificate.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with people at all levels.
