Job summary

Westpac New Zealand is seeking a Senior Engineer to lead backend development for payments-related experiences, designing, building, and evolving server-side solutions in Java and Spring Boot within a cross-functional squad. You will mentor engineers, promote DevOps practices, and ensure scalable, secure, and resilient software.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional engineering experience in Backend development in Java/Springboot.
• Experience in DevOps such as CI/CD pipelines, containerisation and deployment automation
• Proficient in unit testing, code reviews, and debugging
• Ability to break down complex problems and deliver practical solutions
• Strong understanding of software architecture and design principles
• Integrates AI effectively into engineering workflows to improve quality and efficiency, demonstrates strong judgement on appropriate use, and coaches others on responsible AI practices

As a Senior Engineer, you will provide technical leadership, drive engineering best practices, and contribute to solution design and architectural decisions. You will mentor other engineers, collaborate closely with product and platform partners, and ensure the delivery of scalable, resilient, and customer-centric payments capabilities.
