Job summary

Seequent Limited in Christchurch is seeking a Senior Software Engineer with cloud compute service experience for our next-gen cloud geodata platform. You'll join a talented team working on cutting-edge cloud technologies and contribute to Seequent Evo and BlockSync.

You will design, develop and test software, mentor junior engineers, participate in code reviews, and collaborate across cross-functional teams to deliver scalable solutions in Azure, GCP and Docker/Kubernetes environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent.
• 7+ years of experience in software engineering roles.
• Strong experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) and Kubernetes.
• Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines; GitHub Actions experience is advantageous.
• Experience with Python and FastAPI is desirable, but not required; opportunity to learn on the job.

The role

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer with cloud compute service experience for our next-gen cloud geodata platform. You will be part of a talented team working on cutting‑edge cloud technologies and driving innovation at Seequent. This role offers skill growth and career advancement while contributing to our market‑leading solutions, Seequent Evo.

As part of the Seequent Evo ecosystem, we are developing BlockSync, a next‑generation SaaS solution for block model management. Block models are 3D representations of underground mining or exploration environments. We aim to enhance collaboration in the creation and updating of these models, work with subsets of large models, and draw insights to support decision‑making, and we need your help!

We leverage the key capabilities from a variety of Cloud platforms, mostly Azure and GCP. APIs are built using Python, FastAPI and Pydantic. Deployed and run using Docker, Kubernetes, GitHub, GitHub Actions.

Join our dynamic team based in the Christchurch office (hybrid), collaborating closely with other teams in the Evo space. This is a massive opportunity to be a key player in a product that is just entering the market and evolving rapidly.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

• Design and develop sophisticated software applications, components, and modules that push the boundaries of technology.
• Create models, simulations, and prototypes of software behaviour to gain stakeholder approval and ensure smooth construction, verifying designs with advanced methods.
• Code, test, document, and refine complex programs, scripts, and integration services, ensuring high‑quality and efficient solutions.
• Participate in code reviews, pair-programming, and automation activities, promoting excellence in software engineering practices.
• Collaborate closely with other development and cross-functional teams.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team knowledge-sharing initiatives.
• Drive technical discussions and advocate for continuous improvement and innovation.

In order to be successful in this role, it would be great if you had:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent.
• 7+ years working in relevant Software Engineering roles.
• Strong experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) and container orchestration (Kubernetes).
• Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines; GitHub Actions experience is particularly advantageous.
• Experience with Python and FastAPI is highly desirable, but not strictly required. If your background is in another tech stack and you’re keen to work with Python, we’d love to hear from you! You’ll have the opportunity to learn Python on the job.
• Familiarity with concepts like concurrency, parallelism, and modern API development is a plus.

Office-based working environment, work from our Christchurch office three or more days per week.
