Job summary

Apex Group in Auckland, New Zealand is seeking a Risk Manager to strengthen the second line of defence. You will identify, assess and report risks, ensure controls are effective, and embed risk frameworks across the business.

Qualifications

• Relevant tertiary qualification in risk, compliance or related field.
• Professional certification in risk, compliance, or auditing preferred.
• Strong knowledge of risk frameworks in financial services.
• Demonstrated second line of defence experience with cross-functional teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Proactively identify, assess, and report on business risks with effective controls.
• Serve as SME for Apex NZ products, services, and risks.
• Build strong stakeholder relationships across NZ operations.
• Partner with Line 2 Compliance to manage emerging risks.
• Lead risk assessments, testing, and remediation oversight.
• Support local risk reporting and escalate significant issues.
• Provide advice and training to Operations, IT, and client staff.
• Coordinate internal/external audits and address findings.
• Analyze incidents and implement lessons learned and enhancements.
• Maintain Risk Control Profile, BRAs, and testing schedule.
• Manage governance reporting (LARC, BARC) submissions.
• Oversee business continuity planning and exercises.
• Support ongoing enhancement of risk policies and procedures.
