Job summary

DOC in Kaitaia is seeking a Principal Ranger (Onepū and Nga Awa) to lead conservation delivery and people management across a geographically diverse district. The role reports to the Operations Manager and drives collaboration with iwi, hapū, and partners to achieve regional conservation outcomes.

You will recruit and develop staff, coordinate programs within budgets, and provide strategic leadership while modelling integrity and continuous improvement. Salary range: $93,656–$118,510 per year.

Qualifications

• Experience leading teams and building partnerships with iwi, hapū, and community groups.
• Strong financial, planning and resource management skills.
• Experience delivering operational programs across geographically dispersed districts.
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
• Full NZ Drivers Licence.

Responsibilities

• Recruiting, onboarding, and developing staff while building a positive team culture.
• Planning, scheduling, and coordinating work programmes to meet timelines and budgets.
• Contributing to District Leadership Team discussions on priorities and resources.
• Building relationships with iwi, hapū, whānau, and stakeholders to achieve shared outcomes.
