Job summary

Brosnan is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our Auckland-based team. You will manage commercial concepts, contracts, payments, and variations across complex projects, mentoring junior staff as needed.

The role emphasizes cost control, risk management, and clear communication with clients and subcontractors to deliver on-time, within budget outcomes. A Diploma or degree in QS/Construction Management is required.

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management.
• 3+ years experience in a Senior Quantity Surveyor position.
• CostX and CAT Projects familiarity (training provided).

Responsibilities

• Forensic analysis of contract documents, budgets, estimates and subcontractor quotations.
• Ensuring adherence to contract terms and conditions and managing risk protection.
• Negotiating favorable outcomes with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
• Managing risks and resolving problems as they arise.
• Procuring subcontractors and compiling subcontract agreements.
• Assessing payment claims and variations.
• Measuring, estimating and valuing variation claims.
• Establishing rates from first principles.
• Preparing and submitting variation claims.
• Providing monthly cost reports and accurate cost forecasts.
• Managing relationships with clients and key project stakeholders.
• Overseeing the project team to achieve all financial deliverables and outcomes.

Requirements

We are looking for someone who can work closely with the project team, subcontractors, and key project stakeholders managing all commercial concepts, practices ,and procedures from project commencement through to completion. The Senior Quantity Surveyor must have a good understanding of commercial contract law, drafting subcontract agreements, assessing payment claims and variations, enforcing adherence to contractual terms and risk management. The position may also involve junior and peer mentoring to ensure development and skill transfer within the business.
