Job summary

New Zealand Government's Department of Conservation is seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead multi-disciplinary projects from scoping to delivery across Christchurch, Dunedin or Invercargill. You will oversee infrastructure delivery, IT integration, policy and advertising streams while coordinating site investigations and workshops with internal teams and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years proven experience managing large-scale, complex projects with risk management and governance.
• Experience in delivering complex infrastructure works with Regulatory Approvals eg. building consents, resource consents, Environmental plans.
• Experience in leading multi-discipline projects/workstreams to deliver successful projects for stakeholders.
• Experience in procurement and contract management including different contracting delivery models and forms of contracts.
• Proficiency in MS Office tools and MS Project.
• Strong financial literacy and management capabilities.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels, and leading cross-functional teams.
• Understanding of Health and Safety at Work Act and management of health and safety throughout project delivery.
• Experience engaging and working with Māori to meet treaty partners’ expectations.
• Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguous situations and bring structure to complex projects.
• Current full driver's licence.

Responsibilities

• Lead site investigations and stakeholder workshops across projects.
• Establish and maintain project documentation and contract management plans.
• Manage budgets (OPEX and CAPEX) including forecasting and value for money.
• Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders and ensure clear communication.
• Collaborate with the wider Programme team to ensure technical robustness and consistent approach.
• Translate complex technical processes into actionable project plans and scope.
• Identify, mitigate and manage project risks.
• Oversee Health and Safety of staff, consultants and contractors.
• Engage with Māori to uphold Te Tiriti obligations and embed co-design where appropriate.
