Job summary

Department of Conservation (DOC) in New Zealand is seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead the delivery of diverse DOC projects from scoping to completion. The role focuses on infrastructure delivery, IT system integration, policy work, and advertising, coordinating site investigations and workshops nationwide.

You will manage project budgets, engage with iwi and stakeholders, and ensure compliance and safety across all stages, while collaborating with the Programme Manager and District

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years proven experience managing large-scale, complex projects with governance, risk management and delivery
• Experience in delivering complex infrastructure works with regulatory approvals
• Experience leading multi-discipline projects/workstreams for stakeholders
• Experience in procurement and contract management with different contracting models
• Proficiency in MS Office tools and MS Project
• Strong financial literacy and management capabilities
• Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to engage stakeholders at all levels
• Understanding Health and Safety at Work Act across project delivery
• Experience engaging with Māori to meet treaty partner expectations
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and bring structure to complex projects
• Current full driver’s licence

Responsibilities

• Lead delivery of DOC projects from scoping to completion across multiple disciplines
• Manage site investigations, stakeholder workshops, options assessments, business analysis and procurement
• Oversee budgets (OPEX and CAPEX) with forecasting and value-for-money
• Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders for clear alignment
• Collaborate with Programme team to ensure robust, repeatable project delivery
• Coordinate consultants and contractors with clear scope, deliverables and quality standards
• Identify and mitigate risks to ensure timely compliance and deadlines
• Ensure Health and Safety management across staff and contractors
• Embed Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations through iwi engagement and co-design
